Employees Provide Backpacks to Children at The Road Home Shelter
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SANDY, UTAH – June 6, 2016 – SilverVue®, a provider of hospital patient transitional care technologies, has provided summer backpacks to homeless children. The donated backpacks were stocked with swimsuits, toiletry and personal care items for children transitioning at The Road Home, Midvale shelter.
Matthew Minkevitch, Executive Director of The Road Home commented, "There is nothing normal about being a child experiencing homelessness. For these children, simple things such as backpacks and swimsuits become incredibly important.” He added, “Having something to call their own, has a profound effect on the children we serve. We are extremely grateful to SilverVue for their commitment to the children we serve."
The shelter will distribute the backpacks containing swimsuits and personal items so that children aren’t excluded from opportunities to swim at the Boys and Girls Club or otherwise participate in summertime activities because of their circumstances.
“We are committed to making a positive impact in our community,” commented Will West, Founder and CEO of SilverVue. “While we apply our expertise in technology to help hospital patients in transition, we are also mindful of displaced people in our communities who are also in transition and we are pleased to offer our support to the children at The Road Home.”
In 2015, the Road Home Midvale shelter accommodated 1,498 children. A random census taken one evening in May of this year showed 138 children at this shelter one night. Most of these circumstances result from overwhelming debt, medical bills, unemployment or domestic abuse situations. Whatever the reasons, children are often the most underserved.
Support and contributions to this project were made by SilverVue employees and their families, and the national HiMSS organization, which donated unused backpacks from their annual conference.
